1. 데이터 코딩을 활용한 연구방법론 [Research Methods Using Data Coding]
This course introduces students to research methods in applied linguistics including the application of artificial intelligence to language learning. This course covers the procedures necessary for quantitative and qualitative research in applied linguistics and reads examples from journals in applied linguistics. The main goal of this course is to prepare students to be able to conduct their own research studies. Students will also learn basic mathematics and statistical techniques needed to understand how artificial intelligence for language learning works.
2. 프로세스 드라마 [Process Drama]
Process Drama is a process-driven educational drama that works without scripts, and is an effective way to develop students’ creativity, empathy, and critical thinking skills. This unit will show how to play process drama and how to instruct it. Based on this learning experience, students will design their own process drama, and will be instructed by peer teaching with rich feedback from professors and colleagues.
3. 영어지도 실습 [Practical Teaching Methodology]
This course will focus on the principles of effective classroom practice in the teaching of foreign languages and give learners hands-on teaching practice in the context of teaching English through English. In addition to looking at the four macro skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, this course will also examine the teaching of grammar, vocabulary, and phonology so that these activities are situated in teaching episodes in their proper place.
4. 어린이영어지도 [Teaching Young Learners]
Regularly described as both rewarding and challenging, teaching languages to young learners requires a set of skills most people simply do not have. Young learners are still developing socially, emotionally, and cognitively, and may not have chosen to be in the language classroom but they very often bring tremendous energy, goodwill, and curiosity to their studies. This course aims to support teachers as they harness that positivity and channel youthful energies into the acquisition of English as an additional language. This practical course will provide both new and experienced teachers with opportunities to manifest teaching theory in classroom practice, and refresh established routines with new techniques.
1. 언어교재개론 [Introduction to Language Teaching Materials]
This course deals with current principles of syllabus design and instructional materials focusing on the analysis, and evaluation of instructional materials for English language teaching. This course aims to survey and analyze existing ELT materials on the market and helps students have keen eyes on evaluating ELT materials for choose as well as developing appropriate one.
2. ELT 교육과정 디자인 [ELT curriculum Design]
This course is an orientation to the process of second language (SL) curriculum design—planning, development, assessment, and evaluation. You will learn how to apply theory to practice and create effective ELT programs. By the end of the course, you should be able to construct a customized SL learning program that effectively targets one (or several) of the major skills areas (e.g., speaking, reading).
3. ELT 출판 [ELT Publishing]
Through this course, students will understand the whole process of publishing (planning, writing, editing, designing, printing, and distributing). Students will learn how to publish their ELT manuscripts and contents into real paper books or digital content through this publication process.
1. 언어학습과 교수의 원리 [Principles of Language Learning & Teaching]
This course will familiarize students with theories, methodologies, issues and practices of language learning and teaching. We will examine theories, principles and models in instructed second language acquisition and will evaluate the applicability of recent pedagogical developments in the language skills and systems for L2 learners in the Korean ELT context.
2. 듣기 및 말하기 지도 [Teaching Listening & Speaking]
This course aims to develop learners’ understanding of different approaches to teaching speaking and listening, while at the same time building their confidence to conduct their own lessons. Learners will first partake in a guided reflection of the key aspects of language learners' speaking and listening development today. They will then be guided through a variety of approaches and activities to teaching listening and speaking and begin to design their own mini speaking & listening lesson. Through hands on practice, reflection, and feedback from their peers and professor, learners will gain a deeper understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of various speaking & listening approaches, methods, and activities, and increase their ability to plan and carry out effective lessons.
3. 읽기 및 쓰기 지도 [Teaching Reading & Writing]
This course is an introduction to teaching the skills of reading and writing to second language (SL) learners (from “elementary” [A2] to “upper-intermediate” [B2] level). You will learn how to apply theory to practice and create effective lessons and teaching materials. By the end of the course, you should be able to design pedagogically sound reading/writing lessons, worksheets, and units of study for use in private institutes and public schools.
1.Language Awareness
Language awareness refers to the development in learners of an enhanced consciousness of and sensitivity to the forms and functions of language. The approach has been developed in contexts of both second and foreign language learning, and in mother-tongue language education, where the term ‘knowledge about language’ has sometimes been preferred. In this course, students learn various aspects of English including phonetics, grammar, discourse, etc., which can help them teach English more effectively.
2. 어휘학습과 영어교육 [Vocabulary in ELT]
This course focuses on understanding diverse aspects of EFL vocabulary learning and teaching. The course deals with both theoretical studies and practical experiences through reading course books and doing workshops.
3. AI를 활용한 언어평가[Language Assessment Using AI]
The goal of this course is to help students build expertise in language assessment. Students will learn the basic theory of language assessment needed to design and analyze language tests. The statistical techniques necessary to analyze language test data will also be covered in the course, and students will learn how to develop and evaluate multiple-choice items, as well as performance assessment items (such as speaking and writing). This course will discuss ways to produce computer-adaptive language tests using artificial intelligence technologies.
4. 논문 연구 1, 2 / 작품 연구 1, 2 [Thesis 1, 2 / Project 1, 2]
Through this course, students learn the procedures and methods of writing academic papers or creating professional projects. Students develop their academic or professional interests into master's thesis or master's projects according to the procedures and methods learned in this course.
1. Genre Writing
This course is an introduction to the principles of “good writing” and how professional writers achieve it. Genre Writing (GW) takes a genre-based approach to writing, so you will learn how to compose short but complex texts for different audiences and purposes and within different genres.
2. Academic Writing
This course is an introduction to the principles and patterns of academic discourse. Academic Writing (AW) takes a process genre-based approach to writing, so you will learn how to compose short but complex texts for different audiences and purposes and within different genres. Over the semester you will learn how to draft, revise, and edit your writing and evaluate the writing of others.
3. Listening & Speaking Essentials
This skills course provides participants with the opportunity to increase their speaking abilities and listening comprehension through immersive practice. Engaging with a variety of challenging and unfamiliar topics will enable students to communicate in a professional manner. Participants will work and speak collaboratively for much of the class. Authentic and instructor-created materials will be used in addition to purpose-made materials.
4. Communication Strategies
This skills course continues in the same vein as Listening and Speaking Essentials in that this course will enable students to communicate at a higher level. That being said, this course differs in a couple important ways. First, a greater emphasis is placed on strategies for effective listening and speaking (for example, how to draw inferences while listening). Second, this course focuses more on the prosodic features of English and on sociolinguistic competence, particularly in regards to register and appropriacy. In addition, students will work towards expanding their academic vocabulary and becoming proficient language users.
5. Korean Language I, II
These courses allow participants to increase their Korean listening and speaking abilities from basic to intermediate level through practical in-class practice and activities.
