Although the acquisition of vocabulary is probably the most crucial component of language learning, it’s also probably the most challenging. This is especially true for learners at higher levels who need to push past the intermediate plateau by building a strong, rich and expandable vocabulary base for academic and professional purposes. While there’s no magic formula for turning learners at this level into advanced masters or vocabulary, a mix of traditional research-driven strategies, unconventional yet engaging activities, and motivational coaching can help. In this workshop we’ll explore the challenges, work through a variety of strategies and activities for overcoming them, and share ideas for increasing the likelihood of success.

Chuck Sandy is an author, motivational speaker & educational activist whose many publications include the recently published Passages 3rd Edition and Connect 2nd Edition from Cambridge University Press.
He is a frequent presenter at conferences and workshops around the world, and is a cofounder and director of the International Teacher Development Institute (iTDi). Chuck believes that positive change in education happens one student, one classroom, and one school at a time, and that it arises most readily out of dialogue and in collaboration with other educators.
