It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the International Graduate School of Language Education.

Since its founding in 2002, our institution has taken its place as a specialized graduate school of language education, interpretation, and translation, built upon the dedication of its successive presidents and of its faculty and staff. The change of our name in 2023, from the International Graduate School of English to the International Graduate School of Language Education, was not a simple change of name but an expansion of our aspirations. Today, through the Department of Convergent Language Education, the Department of Interpretation and Translation, and the Department of K-Business Administration, our work extends beyond language itself to the very landscape of the industries through which language travels. In particular, the world's first program in Korean–Vietnamese interpretation and translation and our newly established program in Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language are the result of reading the direction in which the demand for language is moving and responding to it. The Department of K-Business Administration began from the same vision. In international business, the power to bring a transaction to fruition does not lie in the clauses of a contract alone. Only when we understand in depth the language and the culture of those we work with does true communication and cooperation become possible. Business professionals who know language, and language professionals who know business, are precisely the talent our institution is best able to cultivate.

In addition to our master's programs, we offer a doctoral program in Applied Linguistics in the Department of Convergent Language Education and a doctoral program in Korean–Vietnamese Interpretation and Translation in the Department of Interpretation and Translation. If the master's programs cultivate the professionals the field requires, the doctoral programs create the knowledge that explores the field in depth and charts new directions for it. With these two doctoral programs at the center, we will build a firm foundation for research and thereby consolidate our identity as a graduate institution that advances education and research alike.
Language education, interpretation, and translation now stand at the very center of the great transformation that is artificial intelligence. Language, however, is the human heart, and a machine cannot read the heart. To read context aptly, to understand cultural implication in depth and convey it faithfully, and to judge responsibly which expression is most fitting in a given situation — these remain the province of human beings alone. Drawing on our long experience in education and the excellence of our faculty, we will support our students in becoming adept users of AI while cultivating in them the insight, the creativity, and the ethical judgment that machines cannot readily replace.
