Working towards an MA in TESOL / ELT Materials Development and a PhD in Applied Linguistics Language Education

Introduction

  • MA in TESOL / ELT Materials Development

The Department of English Education offers a Master of Arts in TESOL and/or ELT materials development as it offers two majors. The TESOL program is for teachers and others who are interested in English language teaching. The aim of the program is to produce English teaching professionals who not only are experts in teaching but also can conduct research and classroom-based investigations. The aim of ELT materials development program is to produce ELT professionals who are equipped with the theory and practice in the development of ELT textbooks, digital contents, and ELT programs. Students will learn how to analyze and evaluate existing ELT textbooks, digital contents, and second language programs. Students will have opportunities to plan and develop their own ELT textbooks, contents, and programs and learn how to use their products in the field of ELT. In addition, IGSE offers the Korean language and culture program for international students to learn and experience Korean culture.

  • PhD in Applied Linguistics

Our Ph.D. program in Applied Linguistics focuses on cultivating experts in language education, assessment, and linguistic data analysis by integrating cutting-edge information technology (IT) into research and practice. The program offers in-depth training in AI-driven language education and assessment, computational and corpus linguistic analysis of spoken and written language, and the development of curricula and digital learning materials. Students also gain expertise in analyzing vocabulary, grammar, and content difficulty, as well as comparing learner proficiency with content difficulty to design personalized language learning programs. Through this comprehensive approach, the program systematically fosters essential research and practical competencies for language education in the digital era.
